What do priests and dog food have in common?
Both were a component of a photo session I did last night with one of my interns. I knew that this would be a unique photoshoot. Jess has been interning with me for probably a year and half or so, and during that time, one of the things that stands out to me about Jess is that she doesn't want to be like everybody else. She isn't afraid to be uniquely her, and I appreciate that about her.
Jess is used to being the one behind the camera and she wasn't so comfortable or excited about being the one in front of the camera. But she graduates this year and so it was time for some senior photos.
Now, I NEVER wear running shoes to a session. But I just knew that Jess' session wouldn't be any normal session. You just don't know where you'll end up when you are with Miss Jessica. So I prepared as best I could, including wearing shoes that could take me anywhere.
And it is a good thing that I did.
We started out in the parking lot of a Catholic church. Saturday evening mass was about to start, and Father Mike (I think that is his name), was standing out in front of the church greeting people as they arrived. We had just started shooting when he came over and smiled at me and told me not to get run over.
Another stop along the way included the dog food plant. I normally avoid going anywhere near the dog food plant because the stench stays in your nose for hours. But I somehow knew we would end up at the dog food plant with Jess. The smells you encounter when hiking around the back docks of a dog food plant can be absolutely horrifying. Of the four of us, none of us puked, but I'm pretty sure some of us secretly would have liked to.
So there's a glimpse into the very unglamourous life of a photographer. Now I suppose I need to go get dressed. Seth is staying home with the kids for the next three days while I attend the annual convention for the IPPA (Intermountain Professional Photographers Assoc). I'm looking forward to learning lots!
